From Meleka
to Malika.

Malika Ferguson — professionally known as MALIKA (formerly Meleka) — is a British multi-platinum singer-songwriter, executive producer, entrepreneur and music rights holder. Born at the Royal Free Hospital in London and raised in North West London, she is of Jamaican, English and Guyanese descent from a musically active family.

She began singing at the age of five and won her first talent competition that same year. Her father founded Time Radio, one of North West London's first pirate radio stations, and owned the studio 74a Harlesden High Street, where she wrote and recorded from childhood. Her aunt Sonia Ferguson's cover of "Ooh Baby Baby" remains a UK Lovers Rock classic.

She is regarded as one of the pioneering voices of UK funky following the success of her 2009 single "Go" — particularly the Crazy Cousinz remix — which became one of the defining records of the genre and experienced a major resurgence in 2026. Across her career she has worked across R&B, soul, pop, dance and electronic music, contributing to records that have accumulated over 300 million streams, including collaborations with Nathan Dawe, Snakehips, Sam Feldt, Michael Calfan and Basement Jaxx.

She has built a reputation for independent music ownership and creative entrepreneurship, retaining ownership of her catalogue. In 2025 she expanded into television and media through her production company AnotHER Production Company, currently developing a documentary focused on women in music, and in 2024 founded the music consultancy Sounds Write.
